Pool Tiles FAQs
What is the difference between pool tiles and normal house tiles?
In particular, pool tiles typically have very low porosity (water absorption rate). This makes them suitable for being constantly wet or underwater. Pool tiles are also specifically glazed to withstand harsh pool chemical and constant UV sunlight which might otherwise degrade the colour and surface of the tile.
What types of tiles make good pool tiles?
Because pool tiles need to withstand harsh pool chemicals and constant UV sunlight, they are typically made of either specially glazed porcelain, or glass. Additionally, because pool tiles need to shape to the many curved surfaces of the pool, smaller individual tile sizes are ideal. Varieties such as mosaic tiles, subway tiles, kit kat tiles or smaller 100 x 100 mm square tiles can work well.
What styles make good pool surrounds tiles?
Perhaps the most important feature of pool surround tiles is their anti-slip rating. As pool surrounds will be often wet, anti-slip tiles help prevent accidents and falls. As with pool tiles, pool surround tiles must also ideally be non-porous and resistant to chemicals and UV light.
How does the tile slip ratings work?
The standard for tile slip ratings in Australia is the Pendulum Slip Test. This provides a rating from P1 (high slip risk) to P5 (low slip risk). A slip rating of P4 or P5 is preferred for pool surround tiles and coping tiles.
Do you ship tiles interstate?
Whilst we are based in Sydney, we quite frequently ship products interstate. Call us with your requirements and we'll provide a shipping quote.
